About Cerámica Acasiete

Alfredo Najarro is a Peruvian musician, ceramist, and maker of pre-Hispanic musical instruments whose work brings the ancient sound world of the Andes into living experience. For decades, Alfredo has studied surviving instruments from ancient Peruvian cultures and reconstructed their forms, materials, and acoustic qualities. His work includes ceramic antaras, quenas, trumpets, drums, whistles, pututos, and whistling vessels associated with cultures including the Nazca, Moche, Chincha, and Inca. He participated in **Waylla Kepa**, an interdisciplinary project that documented and studied more than two thousand pre-Hispanic musical instruments. His reconstruction process combines careful measurement, acoustic analysis, ceramic knowledge, and attention to the sonic register of each finished instrument. Alfredo has performed on reconstructed and restored instruments and shared his knowledge with musicians, researchers, artists, and instrument makers from Peru and abroad. Through clay, breath, water, and sound, his work helps preserve and revive ancient Peruvian musical technologies as a living tradition.
