About the practice

We live inside sound but rarely listen. Rooted in the Senia Gharana and South Asian traditions of sound, from Kashmiri Shaiva meditation to Sufi thought, Sound Journey offers private six-week online programs in listening as a way of connecting with people, places, and yourself. Each journey is shaped around your life: a personal listening map, a daily ritual, live sitar, curated recordings, and a raga recorded for you. Begin with a free introductory listening session.

My Story

Listening as a Way of Living A private six-week journey into South Asian traditions of sound, designed around your life We live inside sound, yet we rarely listen. The traditions I practice treat sound as a living force that shapes attention, deepens relationship, and changes how we meet the world. I'm a sitar player of the Senia Gharana, a lineage known for the austere, unornamented, meditative approach of Ustad Mushtaq Ali Khan, where a single note is given room to open. I've explored this alongside the sound meditations of the Vijnana Bhairava Tantra and the writings of Hazrat Inayat Khan on music as a path inward. This program is for people longing for deeper connection and a more meaningful way of paying attention: to others, to the world, and to themselves. It is built around you, not a fixed curriculum. What you receive • Your listening map: a 45-minute opening session where we explore your daily soundscape (home, work, relationships) and shape the program around it • Six weekly private sessions (60 minutes, online), each with a guided exercise • Your personal daily ritual: a 10-15 minute practice written for you, with a recording of me guiding or playing it • A living playlist: recordings from South Asian traditions, added each week in response to what arises • Voice-note support: send me a reflection or question between sessions and I'll reply by voice • A keepsake: a raga recorded personally for you, and a one-page summary of your practice in your own words • An invitation to a quarterly online listening circle for past participants Founding-client offer (3 places only) Regular price: $1,800. Founding rate: $600 In return, I ask for honest feedback and, if the experience moves you, a short testimonial. Next step Begin with a free 30-minute introductory listening session, with no obligation. This is a listening and contemplative practice, not therapy or a substitute for mental health care.

Training, credentials and recognition

I have been playing sitar for over six years, trained in the Dhrupad-influenced Senia Gharana. My first teacher was Ustad Qamar Ali Khan, nephew of Ustad Mushtaq Ali Khan. After his passing, I continue my training under Steven Landsberg, a direct disciple of Ustad Mushtaq Ali Khan. This lineage shapes everything I offer: an austere, unornamented, meditative approach to sound, where a single note is given room to open, and listening becomes a living practice.
